Viking gas ranges and cooktops are the most frequently serviced Viking appliances in Denver, and igniter failures are the primary repair we perform. Viking uses hot surface igniters in their ovens and spark igniters on their cooktop burners. The oven igniter is a silicon carbide element that must draw a specific amperage to open the gas safety valve. As the igniter ages, its resistance increases and it draws less current, eventually reaching a point where it glows visibly but cannot pull enough amperage to open the valve. The result is a Viking oven that will not heat despite the igniter appearing to work. This is the most commonly misdiagnosed issue on Viking ovens, and we carry replacement igniters for both the bake and broil positions on the most common Viking models.
Viking gas valve issues are another frequent service call. The gas valve controls the flow of gas to the oven burner and is opened by the electrical signal from the igniter. Over time, the gas valve solenoid coils can weaken, requiring more amperage than a marginally worn igniter can provide. In some cases, both the igniter and gas valve contribute to the failure together. Viking cooktop burner valves can also develop issues where the valve does not open smoothly, causing the burner to light intermittently or not at all on certain positions. We test both the igniter and gas valve to determine which component needs replacement.
Burner tube corrosion is a problem specific to Viking gas cooktops and ranges, particularly in units installed near the coast or in humid environments. Denver's dry climate reduces this risk, but it does not eliminate it entirely. The burner tubes on Viking cooktops are exposed to moisture from cooking, spills, and cleaning, and over time the tube openings can corrode or become clogged with food debris and grease. When burner ports are blocked, the flame pattern becomes uneven, with some sections producing yellow flames, no flame, or excessive flame. We clean and inspect burner tubes and replace them when corrosion has progressed beyond cleaning.
Viking oven temperature calibration issues affect both gas and electric models. A Viking oven that runs consistently hot or cold relative to the set temperature may have a failing temperature sensor, a control board calibration drift, or a convection fan that is not circulating air properly. We test the oven temperature with a calibrated thermometer and use Viking's diagnostic procedures to determine whether the sensor, control board, or fan motor needs attention. Viking refrigerators can develop compressor, defrost system, or sealed system issues, and Viking dishwashers may experience pump motor or control board failures.
