Common GE Repair Issues
GE Profile and Cafe refrigerators with in-door ice makers and water dispensers frequently develop water inlet valve failures. When the valve malfunctions, water may drip continuously into the ice maker, creating oversized ice that jams the bucket, or the dispenser may stop flowing entirely. On GE French door models, the defrost system can fail due to a burned-out defrost heater or a faulty defrost thermostat, leading to frost buildup on the evaporator coils and reduced cooling performance. Our technicians test each defrost component individually to identify the exact point of failure.
GE top-load washers that use a transmission-driven agitator can develop transmission failures over time. The transmission converts motor rotation into the agitating and spinning motions, and when its internal gears wear, the washer may agitate but refuse to spin, or it may make a grinding noise during operation. GE Profile front-load washers, on the other hand, are more likely to experience bearing failures or door latch issues. A faulty door latch will prevent the washer from starting and typically triggers error code dE.
GE dishwashers commonly experience issues with the wash motor, the drain pump, or the door latch assembly. Older GE Nautilus and Triton models had documented problems with the motor shaft seal leaking, which caused water to drip from the bottom of the unit. Newer GE dishwashers may develop control board issues where the cycle lights blink but the machine will not start. We diagnose these electronically and replace the control board when necessary.
GE gas ranges use a flat silicon carbide igniter that draws current through a safety valve to open the gas flow. As the igniter ages and its resistance increases, it may glow orange but fail to draw enough current to open the valve, resulting in a range that will not light. This is the single most common GE oven repair we perform, and we carry the igniters on our trucks for same-day completion. GE electric dryers may develop heating element failures or worn drum slides that cause squealing during operation.
