Common Maytag Repair Issues
Maytag Bravos top-load washers, one of the most popular Maytag models sold over the past decade, are known for suspension rod and spring failures. The four suspension rods that support the wash basket can lose their dampening ability over time, causing the tub to bang against the cabinet during the spin cycle. When multiple rods fail, the machine may trigger an off-balance error and refuse to complete the spin. We replace all four suspension rods as a set to restore balanced operation. The Bravos washer also shares the bearing and seal issue common to Whirlpool-platform top-loaders, which produces a loud rumbling sound as the bearings deteriorate.
Maytag refrigerators are built on the same platform as their Whirlpool counterparts, and they share similar defrost system issues. The defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost control board can fail, leading to frost accumulation on the evaporator coils. When frost builds up, airflow to the refrigerator compartment is restricted, and temperatures rise even though the freezer may still seem cold. We test each defrost component and replace the failed part. Maytag French door models also experience ice maker malfunctions where the ice maker module stops cycling or the fill tube freezes over.
Maytag dryers are designed with heavier drum rollers and a more robust belt than many competitors, but these parts still wear over time. A thumping noise during tumbling typically indicates worn drum rollers, while a squealing sound points to the idler pulley or belt showing wear. On gas Maytag dryers, the gas valve solenoid coils can weaken after thousands of cycles, causing the dryer to heat intermittently. The dryer may work on the first cycle of the day but fail to produce heat on subsequent cycles as the coils lose their ability to hold the valve open.
Maytag dishwashers with the dual power filtration system generally perform well, but the chopper blade and filter assembly should be cleaned regularly. When the filter becomes clogged, wash performance drops and dishes come out with food residue. The electronic control board on some Maytag dishwashers can also fail, causing the unit to stop mid-cycle or display erratic behavior. Maytag ranges share the same igniter design as Whirlpool ranges, and igniter replacement is the most common oven repair we perform on Maytag gas models.
